Wood & Design
MODERN DESIGN, NATURAL BEAUTY
MACROdesign is thinking big about wood in design. As techonology has advanced, steel, concrete and plastic have became the materials of choice for architects and industrial designers alike. These materials are uniform and easy to mass produce, annually causing billions of tonnes of carbon and toxic waste as a result. MACROdesign is pushing against the grain, milling whole logs to form classic shapes for modern furniture. Every piece is more than 70 years in the making, with nature bending and twisting its way into existence, living stories captured in time-through grain. No two MACROdesign pieces are the same and therefore cannot be mass produced. Taking years to be dried then shaped, each piece has a net positive carbon effect; we prefer it that way.
Form Range
Formed from whole logs, these pieces are shaped while the tree is whole. The result is a cross section of the tree, the grain and knots exposing the internal growth in three dimensions. The trees take a minimum of 70 years to reach the metre wide diameter required for shaping and take a further two years to air dry. Each piece is unique, formed into simple shapes to juxtapose the wild growth rings and colours.
